Choosing what to wear for your maternity session can be the biggest concern when preparing for your shoot.

What to Wear

Let me make that a bit easier for you

Be authentically you. If you're a casual person - Be casual. If you love to dress up do. If your sensual and want to celebrate your changing body do.  These are YOUR photos, they need to represent you in every way.

1

Decide what kind of session you would like.
You can have an intimate session that involves alot of bare skin or even full nudity. Or a more traditional session where you are fully dressed in a gorgeous flowing dress. You can start fully clothed and slowly strip down to have a mix of it all.

2

Think of the location. The location dictates your outfit choice from the start, so if you haven't already got a spot in mind, feel free to reach-out for some recommendations. Will it be a casual beach session or will you be dressed up around town? Consider the vibe you are going for first as you select your outfits.

3

Have everyone matching. Remember the old family photos where we were all wearing denim and white shirts?

4

Personally I like solid flat colours for maternity sessions as they truly let your stunning changing body shine through.

5

Dress for the
location

Embrace all
your beauty

Instead,                  look for colours with a similar intensity that compliment each other.
Here are some colours I love right now!

To add depth and interest to your photos. Make it interesting with a few coordinating subtle patterns and textures.
Think Knitts, Linen, Lace, Denim and Cordroy.

Mix and
Match

Wear clothes that don't fit you.

Underwear that is digging on or bulging on the side doesn't look very flattering, if thats had to find in this season of life opt for crop tops, sports style bras or swimwear.
In the same sentiment dresses that arn't fitted well don't reveal your belly and you will be spending alot of the session using your hands to shape the dress - just something to keep in mind.

6

Opt for dressed that wrap around or have an opening to revel your belly.
This is a great way to still celebrate your bump without getting fully unclothed.
AND add your own creative flare if your a retro t-shirt kind of family embrace that or if you love the idea of high waisted undies - lets embrase the fun in that.

7

Wear dark eye makeup or get that spray tan.
Keep your makeup simple, we want to see YOU. If you love the long fake eyelashes and a strong fake tan that you wear every day then that's ok as it represents who you are but if you are doing it just for the pictures keep this in mind -  too much dark around the eyes can make them disappear altogether and a fake tan can look quite orange when combined with a warmer edit.

8

 - Bold logos or words on t-shirts.
 - Wear black - it can be hard to edit and drowns out
everything around it. Opt for greys or browns instead.
 - Wear fine stripes or checks, they do the strangest things to cameras.

 - Bring your watches or sunnies with you to the shoot.

Need some inspiration?

Casual Easy Looks

Jeans and white button-up top, crop,
or bikini top.
A simple T (that can be knotted up) or baggy crop and underwear.
A nice knitt that opens in the from or can be rolled up above your belly.  Or even a relaxed linen set.
This outfit can be achieved at any budget and maybe something you have in your closet.

Keep it simple

Bikini or underwear, try to aim for a neutral solid colour in tones of white, black, cream, beige, sage green or brown.

This  sides, string bikinis and high waisted underwear can look gorgeous on a pregnant belly.

You can opt for a lace bra however the areola (your nipples) can look alot darker in pregnancy (its a super cool thing your body does so its easier for baby to find when they are born - amazing hay) and will show through the lace and be more noticeable in images.

Bare skin and fabrics

I am in awe of the female form esepcially when its growing a human - how amazing are you!!! I love it when my clients are happy to bare all and truly embrase this time in their lives. After all you are only glowing like this for a very short time.

If your up for a more intimate natural session but want to add some feminity I have several stunning fabrics that I will bring to your session. They are a great way to show some skin without revealing too much. They flow in the wind and with the water as well as catch the glow of the sun.

Want to include a bit of glamour?

If your keen to wear something special for your shoot you have 2 options - you can buy something nice that you may or may not wear again or hiring is such a great option.

I have listed some ideas on where to shop and hire down below... but I'm going to let you in on what are some of my most favourite peices to both hire or buy.

Robbed Co Shear Robe (pictured top) and the Jen’s Pirate Booty Lapis dress in cream or rust (pictured bottom). They are both stunning pieces that are natural thus giving space for your natural beauty to shine through.

Right HERE I have a Pintrest board to offer even more inspiration. Remember you can have multiple outfits in one session, just chat to me if you'll be doing a few changes as we need to make sure we allocate enough time for it and include it in the flow of the session.

Why did I use stock images and not my own? - Well think of this as a mood board for your shoot with loads of inspo
- not just outfits but poses and locations. Let me know if you see something you like.

Please note I have used stock images as examples - a few of these images are not my own.
